Bridal Wear & Grooms Wear

Choosing your dress is something you've probably been dreaming about long before your husband-to-be proposed. You might even know exactly what you want already, it is important however to keep an open mind, some brides leave the shop with their originally envisioned dress dream come true, while others find themselves with the last style they had contemplated wearing. Before you go shopping remember that the way a dress looks in the magazine or on display is not always the way it is going to look on you.

If you have no idea what style you want then it might be a good idea to look through magazines and websites and to go to wedding shows. There are thousands of styles available, from separate bodices and skirts to flowing dresses. There are a whole host of contemporary designs as well as more traditional styles so it is a good idea to put in a little research and to narrow your options even a little.

A few more things to think about before you go shopping are who to take with you. If you prefer to shop alone normally then remember that your wedding dress is probably the most important outfit you'll ever buy and the opinion of a trusted friend could be invaluable. Your mum and your bridesmaids will be the obvious choice but try not to take too many people, as too many opinions can be more confusing than helpful. It is important to keep your instincts at the forefront of your mind, this is your day and your dress and if you don't feel 100% happy about a style then it's not the right one, even if everyone else including the assistant thinks it's exquisite.

Also think about what you want to be able to do in your dress. Basic tasks such as walking, sitting and dancing should all be performed with ease. Consider how you are getting to the wedding, will you be able to get in and out of your car or carriage easily? Also think about where you are getting married, if it's outside then an exceptionally long train or skirt won't be practical if you want it to stay clean. You might also want to think about the overall style of the wedding. For instance if you are marrying in an elegant stately home then a sophisticated look might be appropriate, while a period castle might prompt a fairytale theme.

Whether you're into fashion or not, you want to look decent on your wedding day. One of the biggest contributors to your overall look will be your wedding tuxedo. Unless you already own a tux or nice suit, you'll need to rent or buy one. With either option, the first step is finding a good tuxedo shop. You want a store that is reliable and one that has a good reputation such as Robert Ashworth.

Call ahead to ask about the range of suits and tuxedos they offer, and assess the overall vibe when you visit the store. Is it super-busy? Do the salespeople seem to have a good knowledge of their inventory? Keep in mind that your groomsmen will probably need to rent a similar wedding tuxedo to what you get, so opting to use a national chain can be helpful if they live in other parts of the country.

When it is time to start trying on suits, think about the formality of your wedding. Will it be a super-formal ballroom affair? A simple outdoor ceremony with a barbeque? Having this information will help you determine if you should rent a classic black wedding tuxedo, a more low-key khaki suit or anything in between.

While shopping, take advantage of the store associates. It is their job to know the ins and outs of their merchandise (and odds are you're no tuxedo pro). They can not only advise you on which suit to rent, but can also help with measurements and fittings. Speaking of fit, make sure that you can move in your suit before you put any money down. You want to be able to hit the dance floor, toss a garter, and perform all of your other groom duties without worrying about splitting a seam. (Remember, you will be wearing your wedding tuxedo for eight or more hours, so you want to be comfortable.)
